New Delhi: Tanker mafia is thriving in Dwarka and involvement of DDA officials is an open secret. According to reports, water from the bore wells in Dwarka reaches tanker mafia who charge money from the residents for supplying the same water.
The Delhi High Court has taken steps to put things in order. The court on Thursday pulled up the DDA for not complying full with its directions to measure the amount of water being supplied to Dwarka residents.
The court said metres need to be installed at all these locations as "we do not want any tanker mafia to pilfer water in collusion with your (DDA) officials".
"We feel water is being pilfered from the bore wells," the court observed.
A bench of justices Badar Durrez Ahmed and Siddharth Mridul again directed the Delhi Development Authority (DDA) to install flow metres at each of the bore wells and at the point of inflow into the command tanks.
Flow metre was also directed to be installed at the point from where water flows out from the command tank.
It directed DDA to file an affidavit containing detailed measurements of water flowing into the command tanks in Dwarka and then being supplied to residents there, saying its latest status report was "not satisfactory".
It listed the matter for further hearing on November 19.
The court made the observations and issued the fresh directions after perusing the affidavit filed by DDA pursuant to the bench's directions of September 18.
DDA in its latest affidavit has said 11.25 kilolitres of water every day is sent from 10 of the 14 bore wells in Dwarka to the command tank 4.
It, however, did not have details of the amount of water being supplied from command tank 4 to Dwarka.
